Western Day Fun

We had a lot of fun learning dances and performing them for Western Day.  We also did some interesting activities and some of us had lunch outside.

Here are some of our thoughts about Western Day.

• Jennifer: I liked dancing with my class and eating pizza in the class.  I liked dancing with my teacher too.
• Jose (Mrs. M's Class): I was having fun on Western Day because we went to recess.
• Desmond: I like Western Day because we went out for recess for a long time and we ate pizza and watched movies.  We had free time.  I like when we danced.  I like when all the parents came.
• Esau: I liked eating pizza.
• Nykaila: I like when we watched movies and we didn’t have to sit at our own tables.  We had a little party.  I liked the dances Mrs. Middleton taught us.
• Hannah: On Western Day I liked that my dad recorded us dancing both of our dances.  
• Da’Qualyn: My favorite part of Western Day was when we got to dance.
• Cody: I liked the part when we got to eat pizza.
• Dathan: I like when we got to eat pizza, go outside, have fun, and dance.

Math!

We have been very busy learning Math!!  Some things we studied are shapes and area.

Roller Coasters

We have been very busy learning in second grade.  In Science we learned about spinners, tops, and roller coasters.  It was lots of fun!

We were rolling the marble down the runway.

We were fixing the runway so that it could work.

The marble rolled because it had a  lot of momentum.

We were making ramps and testing them.

We made a roller coaster go around the classroom.

We made the roller coaster go up and down.

The marble is going to the end!

We were excited because we got the marble to go to the other end.

He was ready to catch the marble.

Welcome Back, Mrs. White!

Mrs. White has been out on maternity leave enjoying time with her two daughters, Vivian and Olivia.  Olivia was born in December.  We missed Mrs. White and are glad she is back at school.

Cinderella Bigfoot

Along with our studies of fairy tales, fables, legends, and myths, we also studied drama.  We turned stories into plays.  Mrs. White's class acted out their play for all of second grade.  We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Cinderella and her stepsisters

Cinderella helped her stepsisters get ready for the ball.

Cinderella watched Lifestyles of the Royal and Famous on TV when her stepsisters left.

Elsie, the Fairy Godmother Cow comes on top of the TV to visit Cinderella.

A ball invitation magically appears.

Elsie, "You have to be back before the clock strikes twelve."

The prince took the lost shoe to try on the stepsisters.

Cinderella tried on the sneaker.  It fit!

The prince asked Cinderella to marry him.

The shoe must go on.  They lived happily ever after.

2-D and 3-D Shapes

In Math we have been learning about 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes.

Fables

We have been reading fables in class.  This week we wrote our own fables.

Once there was a pig who always played in the mud.  He never ever worked for food for the winter.  Only the squirrel worked.  He said, "Why don't you ever work?"  "Because it is not fun," said the pig.  Winter began and the pig as hungry.  He asked all the squirrels.  He was at the last house.  He went to knock at the door and ask for food, and the squirrel said yes.

Once upon a time a horse and a cow were wandering around in the forest.  A wolf showed up and the wolf ate the cow.  Then the horse ran and the wolf tried to find the horse.  But the next day the wolf gave up and went to his house.  The horse went to the farmer and went in the barn with the rest of the animals.  He ate their food and went to sleep like the horses.

One afternoon a dolphin saw a shark.  He thought it was a dolphin, so he woke up him.  The shark chased the dolphin!  The dolphin said, "Don't eat me."  "Why?" asked the shark.  "Then I will return the favor."  So the dolphin was set free.  Then a fishing hook was lowered down.  The shark thought it was a real fish.  He bit the hook.  Then it pulled the shark!  He pulled and pulled.  He called the dolphin.  Dolphin swan as fast as he could.  He swung his tail and cut through the fishing line in half.  "Thank you so much, Dolphin," said Shark.  "You're welcome, Shark."  And they were friends forever.

We did Reader's Theaters of fables like The Grasshopper and the Ant.

My favorite fable is The Grasshopper and the Ants because they need to gather food for the winter.  The grasshopper is always being silly and the ant works hard.

My favorite fable is The Lion and the Mouse because I like the lesson.  It's a really important lesson.  No one is too small to help.

My favorite fable is The Boy Who Cried Wolf because I like wolves.  I saw the second episode of these two kids who were wolves.  The lady was their dad's friend.  She was a vampire.  The dad didn't believe them.
