Game Winners

Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Price came to our classes and cut a link in our paper chain.  The person's name on the link won an Operation game!  We got links for being here, doing what we're supposed to do, and other things our teachers gave them to us for.

Congratulations to the winners!

As promised, here is some of our persuasive writing.  Read, enjoy and leave a comment for us.

I Want King Kong for Christmas
By Carlos

Did you know that this year I’m asking for King Kong for Christmas?  Well, I am.  But my mom doesn’t want me to get King Kong because she gave me her three problems.  They are what if it goes away and destroys the city?  I will put him to sleep.  What if he destroys the house?  We will build it again.  What if it doesn’t fit in the house?  We will build a big tree house for him.  Well, I id not get King Kong, but I did get a toy because if he goes on Santa’s sleigh it will take it down and Santa will scream, “Mayday!  Mayday!”

I Want a Spinosaurus for Christmas
By Alex

This Christmas I want a spinosaurus.   My mom says where will he sleep?  I said in the two car garage.  She said he will eat me up.  I will buy food for the spinosaurus.  Spinosaurus can break the two car garage.  I will build a big house.  He will get out of the house and destroy other houses.  I will lock the door so he cannot get out.  I did not get the spinosaurus because he ate Santa Claus.

I Want a Magic School Bus for Christmas
By Daneyra

This year I want a Magic School Bus for Christmas.  My mom does not let me get a Magic School Bus because it would take me to space.  I said I would learn about space.  My mom then said that it would take me to the ocean.  I said I would learn about the ocean.  My mom said that it would take me to New York.  I said I would learn about New York.  I really did want that Magic School Bus, but my mom said that Jessenia would get on the bus and go to space and never come back.  So I did not get my Magic School Bus.

I Want a Long Neck for Christmas
By Vincent  G.

This Christmas I want a long neck so I can have a friend.  I want a long neck for Christmas.  I don’t think Santa will mind, but my mom said he’s too big.  Then I said I will build a big house.  I don’t want a shirt or a dinosaur.  I only want a long neck.  But then dad said he will eat me up.  I said he’s a vegetarian.  My sister said he smells a lot.  I said I will take him to a rain forest.  I only want a long neck for Christmas, no shirt or dinosaur.  I only want a long neck!!

I Want a Lion for Christmas
By David

This year I would like a lion for Christmas to feed him and play with him.  My mom says the lion would eat me up.  But I told my mom that I would give him meat.  My mom says the lion will make a mess with his tail.  I will tie his tail.  Mom says what about if the lion bites people.  I will give him a shoe to chew on.  I did not get the lion because he threw Santa Claus out of his sled.

I Want a Vampire for Christmas
By Aidan

This year I am asking Santa to bring me a vampire.  My mom said it will suck your blood.  I will tape its mouth!  Mom said he is going to break our stuff.  I will lock him in a cage.  Mom said he is going to destroy our house.  I will watch him to make sure he doesn’t destroy our house.  Yes, I got the vampire.

I Want the Philadelphia Eagles for Christmas
By Dathan

This year I am asking Santa Claus for the Philadelphia Eagles.  No, because they will be playing football in the house.  But I would build them a football field in the backyard.  No, because they will break the tree that is on the porch.  But I would cut it down.  No, because they will break the door.  But I would make a wall where they won’t break the door.  Santa Claus said I would not get the Philadelphia Eagles for Christmas.  There are too many kids that want them.  Oh well, maybe next year.

I Want a Light Saber for Christmas
By Daniel M.

I want a light saber for Christmas.  My mom said I would break stuff.  I said I could keep it in a box.  Mom said it would shine up the house.  I said we don’t need to use electricity.  Mom said I would cut myself.  I said I would be careful.  On Christmas morning I opened up the last present and it was a light saber!  Yay!  This is the best Christmas ever!

I Want Hermione Granger for Christmas
By Alyssa

I want Hermione for Christmas.  Only Hermione will do.  I don’t want a doll.  I don’t want a stuffed animal.  Mom says, “No, we don’t have a place for her to stay.”  What mom doesn’t know is that I have an extra bed.  So I say, “She can sleep on my extra bed.”  I want Hermione for Christmas.  Only Hermione will do.  No musicians and no singers.  Mom says, “No, we don’t have enough books.”  I say, “I will work and raise money and get her spell books.  But mom comes up with another question.  We can’t get her to Hog Warts.”  “Well,” I say, “She can use my bike to get to Hog Warts.”  I gave my mom great answers and got Hermione.

I Want a Fire-Breathing War Elephant for Christmas
By Brendon

What I want for Christmas is a fire-breathing war elephant.  I said to Santa, please get me a fire-breathing war elephant.  Mom said it was too much money.  But mom, I will work for the money.  Mom said he will breathe fire in the house.  I will keep him outside so he won’t burn the house.  He will fly away.  I will put him on a chain.  On Christmas I got the fire breathing war elephant.

I Want a Wolf for Christmas
By Brooklynn

I want a wolf for Christmas.  My mom sais he will eat me.  No problem.  I say to my mom.  I will feed him wolf food.  Then I asked can I please have one.  She says no because it will scratch you up.  I say back to her I will cut his nails.  Then I asked my mom again… Can I have one please?  No, she said again.  Why? I said to my mom.  She said because you keep on asking.  Well, I got a DSI instead.  Maybe next year I will get it, maybe.

I Want a Cheetah for Christmas
By Celine

I want a cheetah for Christmas, but I will have some problems.  First, he might eat me up.  So I will train it like a puppy.  Second, my mom says that cheetahs eat too much.  So I will pay a big check that has a lot of money on it.  Then my mom said that the cheetah has sharp teeth and sharp claws and she doesn’t want her couch, “our couch,” to be ruined.  So I think that we should do what a cat doesn’t like, getting its claws cut.  Then on Christmas night my mom went somewhere and got me a baby cheetah.  I was impressed.  In the morning I had a box.  It was a cheetah!  Thanks, Mom!

I Want the Earth for Christmas
By Drake

I want the earth for Christmas.  The earth won’t fit anywhere in the house.  So it will stay outside in my yard.  Then it will be snowing on Christmas Eve.  The snow will melt on the earth.  It will try to crash me.  I will run for my entire life or either I will die.  No, I won’t get it for Christmas, and I will never get it for Christmas.

I Want Stars in the Sky for Christmas
By Jose Rangel

I want stars in the sky for Christmas.  My mom will say no because the stars will destroy the house.  I will put them in a cage.  The stars will shine in the night.  I will chain the stars outside.  The stars will poke us.  I will put cotton balls on the corners.  No, I did not get stars because how can we get stars from the sky?

I Want a Space Pig for Christmas
By Ruthann

I want a space pig for Christmas.  He’ll ram me so I will put bubble wrap on me.  He will eat my sister’s lunch.  I will put it up high.  He will break my mom and dad’s computers.  So I will put them up for him.

Balance

2nd grade students are studying balance in science.  We are learning what the word balance means.  Another word we are learning about is stable.  Last week we discussed counterbalance.  Some students wondered if that meant getting on top of a counter and balancing something, but it actually means to add weight to an object to make it balance.  We used clothes pins to add weight to the cardboard crayfish and it made it so we could balance the crayfish more easily.  We found out that by changing where the clothespins were attached we could balance the crayfish in different places.
